Locating Underground Services and Using a CAT & Genny

Carrying out excavation work and breaking ground can be very dangerous because of the presence of underground services.

Ensuring that these underground services are located before work starts is critical.

This course helps you learn how to use a range of different methods to locate underground services effectively, including

  • CAT
  • Genny
  • Flexitrace
  • Reading Service plans
  • Site observations

Who’s the Course For?

This course is for anyone who carries out or oversees excavation work and needs to ensure any underground services are clearly located.

Course Duration

FaCT offer a range of courses for 1/2 day to 2 days for the EURS Cat 1 & 2 course

Where

The 1/2 day can be delivered Online via our live online learning platform, all other courses are delivered at our training centre or with agreement can be delivered at your site

Cost

Half Day FaCT course £115 online, £145 in the classroom. Lantra course £180 in the classroom. EURS course 1-day £325, 2-day £475. Call office for cost at your venue

Certification

FaCT is now able to offer a range of different certification routes for this training including

  1. FaCT certificate of achievement
  2. Lantra Awards “skills card” and certificate.
  3. FaCT are now also able to deliver the EURS-approved Category 1 & 2 training courses,
  • Cat 1: Location and Avoidance of Underground Utility Services
  • Cat 2: Implement Safe (Digging) Excavation Practices

Equipment Covered

FaCT delivers the training using popular types of CAT & Genny, typically the gCAT 4+ and Genny.

We also include the use of a “flexitrace” to locate services in ducting.

All training is delivered in line with HSG 47, Health and Safety Guidance on “Avoiding dangers from Underground Services”

The EUSR course covers both the location of underground services and safe digging methods.

Lantra Awards Approved Training

Successful candidates will receive a Lantra Awards Certificate and a skills card

 

 

Energy and Utility Skills

Successful candidates can gain a EURS Cat 1 and Cat 2 certificate

and be added onto the EUSR register with a skills card
